13 years strong at Get Active Fitness

GET Active Fitness is celebrating 13 years of helping Maleny locals build strength and confidence, with the community-focused studio marking the milestone throughout September.

Owner Rachel Lockman launched the business in 2014 with minimal equipment and just a handful of clients, initially attracted through an advertisement on the local IGA noticeboard.

Starting with three classes a week at the Maleny Showgrounds, Rachel steadily grew the business, reinvesting in equipment and expanding the number of classes and trainers.

Today, Get Active Fitness operates from its Bunya Street studio, where a team of six trainers delivers more than 20 classes each week for people of different ages, abilities and fitness levels.

Classes range from strength and functional fitness to yoga, Pilates and low-impact sessions for seniors, with an emphasis on helping members stay active, improve mobility and enjoy exercise in a supportive environment.

The studio’s contribution to the local community was recognised earlier this year when Get Active Fitness received the Bronze Business Award for Maleny at the Glass House Small Business Awards.

Hosted by Glass House MP Andrew Powell as part of Queensland Small Business Month, the awards recognise the contribution small businesses make to their communities.

Rachel said the studio’s greatest achievement over the past 13 years was the community that had developed around it.
“Get Active is more than just a gym, it’s a community,” she said.

To celebrate the milestone, Get Active Fitness is offering new clients one week of free classes throughout September. The studio is located at 23 Bunya Street, Maleny.
