The Glasshouse Country RSL Sub-Branch 2024 Veterans Achievement Award was presented during Graduation Ceremonies for Landsborough, Beerburrum, and Glasshouse Mountains State Schools to a single student from each school.
Each school’s perpetual trophy, implemented in 2023, had the recipient’s name engraved and remained at the school. Additionally, each student received a medallion inscribed with the school grade and their name on the reverse side. The student medallion included a monetary bursary, which was applied to the student’s current school account or transferred to their new school if transitioning to high school or another institution.
The bursary was intended to assist with school-related expenses, such as camps, uniforms, footwear, or other necessary items for their new class requirements. The bursary was acquitted by the Glasshouse Country RSL Sub-Branch and was solely for the student’s educational needs, not for personal or household use.
Teachers selected the successful student from grades 3 to 6 using the following criteria:
- Dedication to learning, not necessarily academic brilliance.
- Pride in themselves and their school.
- A spirit of community involvement, including participation in events such as ANZAC Day and Australia Day.
- A willingness to help others, both young and old, and a supportive attitude towards fellow students.
The awards were presented as follows:
- Glasshouse Mountains State School: December 3, 2024, at 9:30 am, by Mr. Reece Osbourne and other RSL members.
- Landsborough State School: December 4, 2024, at 9:00 am, by Mr. Reece Osbourne and Mr. Barry Davey.
- Beerburrum State School: December 6, 2024, at 9:00 am, by Mr. Reece Osbourne and Mr. Dan Cooper.
The trophies will be displayed in each school’s administration building. The Glasshouse Country RSL Sub-Branch expressed its gratitude to all participants and congratulated the successful recipients.
