50-Cent Public Transport Fares Begin Tomorrow

Translink has released a range of tips to help public transport users adjust as 50-cent fares begin tomorrow.

For the next six months, all fares on South East Queensland buses, trains (excluding Airtrain), ferries, trams, on-demand services, and regional urban bus services will be just 50 cents. The trial is expected to save some customers thousands of dollars over the period.

To make the most of the initiative, Translink is encouraging passengers to:

  • Have a go card, contactless card, or smart device ready for travel.
  • Plan their journey using the Translink app or journey planner.
  • Arrive five minutes early and signal buses clearly to stop.
  • Tap on and tap off correctly to ensure the correct fare.
  • Treat staff and fellow passengers with courtesy.

Translink has also upgraded its Service Capacity Tracker, providing a “traffic light” display to show expected availability on services.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Bart Mellish said the initiative would provide significant savings for Queenslanders.

“This is a fantastic cost of living initiative by the Miles Labor Government, with Queenslanders set to save hundreds of dollars over the next six months,” he said.
