FOR the first time since 2019, the ANZAC Day Book Donors Morning Tea was held at Maleny State High School Library.
Once again, a sumptuous spread of food, steaming pumpkin soup and hot drinks fuelled engaging conversations between students, staff and our special guests – the donors of books to the high school library to commemorate ANZAC Day 2022.
This year a total of 37 new books were donated by 20 different individuals and community organisations. One donor, Jill Lillingstone, travelled all the way from Melbourne to personally donate the book ‘The Incredible Life of Hubert Wilkins’ by Peter Fitzsimons in memory of her Uncle and Maleny man, Private Tom Lillingstone who died in Belgium during WW1.
The gifted books were on special display at the morning tea for people to browse. Inside each book is a special commemorative sticker acknowledging the generous donors as a perpetual reminder to students and staff that they are living in a community that cares and values the hard-fought freedoms we often take for granted. Guests were officially thanked by school captain Hannah Portas on behalf of the students and staff.
The delicious morning tea was provided by students from the Maleny High Interact Club with donations going to Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea for Cancer Research.
