MALENY State High School is the grateful recipient of an extremely generous donation from Apex Club of Maleny toward its Year 11 Road Safety Program held at Roadcraft Driver Education Centre in Gympie.
The Roadcraft course has been a staple excursion for senior students at Maleny SHS for many years with participants completing it gaining crucial knowledge and behaviours to become safer road users.
Apex Club of Maleny has historically provided financial assistance by way of donations to Maleny State High School to help lessen the cost for parents each year.
The Club has now committed to providing the entire cost of the program for 2024 as an ongoing commitment, at a cost of approximately $40 000 per year. This will cover transport to and from the venue, course costs, and specialised t-shirts for all students participating in the program.
The Principal of Maleny State High School, Ms Deborah Stewart, said
“This is truly a gift. Not only does this donation help ease the financial strain for our parents, more importantly our young student drivers will gain invaluable experience. If it saves even one life it is a priceless contribution”, Principal Stewart said.
Apex Maleny has also supported the school and parents by providing another donation to offset part of the cost for parents to pay for a Year 8 camp in term one to Emu Gully Adventure Education Group in Helidon. Activities at the camp are based on an ANZAC theme with a focus on fostering responsibility, self-reliability and resilience in a group atmosphere.
