KATE Barzdo, known professionally as Kate B, is returning to the Maleny Music Festival this November, back by popular demand after performing with her band last year.
A multi-instrumentalist, choir leader, singer-songwriter, and performer, Kate blends folk-based storytelling with meditative mantras, creating music that leaves a lasting sense of peace and connection.
Her journey began at age 14 when she first picked up the guitar, and over the years she has explored folk, blues, wedding gigs, and community choirs. Her music defies a single genre, incorporating folk, country, gospel, reggae, mantra, ambient sounds, and even touches of jazz.
Performing on guitar, Celtic harp, ukulele, and vocals, Kate is joined by her band, ‘the Joyful Noise,’ delivering soulful music rooted in simplicity and storytelling. “Folk has a simplicity that facilitates connection with the audience; it allows understanding through both lyrics and melody,” she explains. While her songs are often eclectic and soothing, there are a few that are perfect for dancing.
For Kate, music is both meditative and therapeutic, offering shared moments of connection that highlight our common humanity. “When we make or experience music together, we experience tangible connectivity—it’s a beautiful reminder that we are all connected,” she says.
You can explore her music and pick up her album Be the Love via katebmusic.com or stream on Bandcamp.
At the Maleny Music Festival, Kate B and her band will perform interactive sets designed to uplift the spirit, taking the stage on Saturday and Sunday around lunchtime.
The festival runs from November 7-9, 2025, at the Maleny Showgrounds. Tickets are available now. Don’t miss the chance to experience Kate B’s magical and heartwarming performance this year. More details and ticketing are available at katebmusic.com.
