THE Landsborough Tennis Club has had its first major event with the new club president, and officially announced a free tennis program unlike any other.
Club president Dan Black and the tennis club team hosted a family fun day at their courts, which included a sausage sizzle, a mini doubles tournament, and a visit from Caloundra MP Jason Hunt.
The club was handed a $2000 sports grant and (almost as importantly) a coffee machine by Jason Hunt to sweeten the day for the club, which Dan said would be helpful towards the club’s upcoming plans.
“We’ve been very fortunate to have Jason support the club for a considerable amount of time now, and so it’s a great opportunity to meet face to face,” he said.
“We’ve been fortunate to get various grants for the resurfacing of the courts coming up and soon to be looking at revamping the aesthetics and going to seek more grants in the not-too-distant future.”
As for the family fun day, Dan said the club had a good attendance of eager kids and parents, and sparked interest in their brand-new tennis program.
“It’s been very well received, had a great turnout with kids from all levels and experience from first timers, kids as little as four- and five-years old right through to young teens,” he said.
“What was really refreshing was the amount of local people and that is really what we’re all about – to drive and steer the local community here.
“We’ve had many people register today, we have limited spaces remaining, which is lovely, and this program is a big deal for a little club like Landsborough so it’s exciting.”
The Junior Aces program officially starts at the Landsborough Tennis Club on Saturday August 6.
