Beerwah boxing champ Dana Coolwell can say he’s truly gone toe to toe with world’s best after he was invited to spar lightweight world champion George ‘Ferocious’ Kambosos.
Kambosos has been preparing to fight US WBC champion Devin Haney this Sunday at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium.
Dana told GC&M News it was a great experience for him to meet and train with Kambosos, who holds the IBF, WBA, WBO and Ring Magazine titles after defeating Teofimo Lopez in New York last year.
“It was for sparring mainly for his prep, he’s got a big fight coming up, and it was really good, I learnt a lot too,” he said.
“I learnt distance control, controlling my pace with my jab, and foot range too, so lots of little things.”
The top class training comes after Dana’s loss against Ender Luces in Brisbane April and ahead of an undecided fighter on July 2 on the Gold Coast.
“I’m pumped, it’s a good card with lots of exposure on it,” he said.
Coolwell also believes the undefeated Kambosos will win against undefeated American Haney in Sunday’s fight, saying Kambosos is “a very humble champion”.
