Beerwah District RSL sub branch unveils refurbished building

BEERWAH’S veterans have a fresh new home following the official opening of the refurbished Beerwah District RSL Sub Branch building at the Beerwah Sportsgrounds on Sunday, August 23.

Sub branch secretary Myra Suosaari said the transformation marks the culmination of more than a year’s work. She said the group had successfully secured a Queensland Remembrance Minor Capital Works grant worth more than $52,000 to improve and modernise the premises.

Local dignitaries from all three levels of government joined sub branch members, and community representatives for the ceremony, which also featured the unveiling of a commemorative plaque recognising the grant and the project.

The funding allowed the sub branch to undertake a significant facelift, including new vinyl flooring, replacement ceiling tiles in the office area, a new wall in the storeroom, and a full interior repaint.

The exterior has also been repainted. Ms Suosaari said the refurbished facility would provide a more welcoming and functional space for local veterans and their families, with a new lounge area offering a comfortable spot to sit, chat and share a coffee.

The Sub Branch meets on the fourth Sunday of each month, and is currently working towards establishing a weekly drop‑in day, to give veterans easier access to support, advice and social connection.
