Beerwah social housing project to deliver 24 units

Construction has begun on 24 new social homes in Beerwah as part of a broader state government plan to deliver 255 social and affordable homes across the Sunshine Coast.

The Beerwah development – at 57 Beerwah Pde – is one of several projects underway across the region, alongside builds in Sippy Downs (26 homes) and Birtinya (63 homes).

Speaking in Beerwah today, Housing and Public Works Minister, Sam O’Connor, said the new homes would provide much-needed relief for locals struggling to find stable accommodation.

“Projects like this one at Beerwah are vital to meeting the need for social housing for Sunshine Coast locals waiting for a place to call home,” Mr O’Connor said.

“We’ve ramped up construction to deliver around 2000 new social and community homes each year by the end of this term.”

The homes at Beerwah are being delivered in partnership with the Kabi Kabi Aboriginal Corporation and Coast2Bay Housing Group, which the Minister said would ensure access to safe and affordable housing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents.

Kabi Kabi Aboriginal Corporation general manager, Grant Cheatham, said the project would have lasting benefits for local families.

“Once completed, these units will provide safe, secure and affordable homes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on the Sunshine Coast,” he said.

The $14.2m Beerwah project is forecast to be completed by November 2026 with the 24 units set to house up to 40 residents.

The developers say the units were designed for natrual ventilation to suit the south east’s sub-tropical climate. Apartments will be arranged across three levels and three separate buildings with a driveway along the southern boundary and landscaping throughout.

There will also be a communal space with seating, BBQ and veggie gardens for residents.
