SAN Taekwondo held its club belt gradings on November 30, with all six students grading for a black belt, passing with flying colours.
Hudson O’Brien, Jax Warry, Lois Finley, Isaac Choi, Aimee Augustin, Christine Bedwell all successfully graded for their black belts.
Club owner, Cameron Taylor, said there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes for students to prepare for grading.
“The Black belt grading involves completing traditional patterns that demonstrate self-defence techniques from various situations, full-contact sparring, timber breaking, and essays on the history and theory of Taekwondo,” he said.
Isaac said reaching a black belt connected him to his father, who earned his belt in the army.
“It also shows how much I’ve learned—like improving my fitness, mastering fundamental techniques, and developing resilience in both Taekwondo and life,” he said.
Maverick Allanson earned his second dan, while club co-owner Kasia Bartnikowska graded for her fifth dan, which is awaiting official approval from Kukkiown, Korea.
