THE San Training Centre based in Beerwah and Maleny is hopeful of training the next martial arts champion, offering newcomers a free trial as part of its back to school special.
The club also have a three week back to school special finishing at the end of February, allowing local kids to try Taekwondo for free to hopefully boost registrations.
It comes as Owner Cameron Taylor said the club had a packed schedule for the centre, including preparing for world championships and cadet world championships selections in February and June respectively.
“Charlie and I are trying to get selected into the Australian team, and its Charlie’s first year as a senior,” he said.
“Jack who won the national championships last year is going to try out at the New Zealand selections on the same weekend, because he is a New Zealand citizen.
“Our younger fighters Sonia and Connor have got the cadet world championship and that will be a big competition for them, so that’s pretty exciting.”
The fighters, particularly the senior fighters, are training hard to perform well at the world championship selections, which will be followed up by the Australian Open later in July.
“The seniors are training seven or eight sessions a week, its full steam ahead at the moment,” Cameron said.
“We just did our fitness testing last week and we made programs for everyone personalised to each person through their fitness test results.”
