IT WASN’T what Beerwah Bulldogs’ coach Rod Kerr had hoped for to wrap up the regular season for the Women’s Open team.
A 52-0 thrashing at the hands of the Kawana Dolphins on Saturday (August 13) before a bye round next week and finals the following was a frustrating result, Rod said.
Rod said he had hoped the team would put on at least a few tries, but instead rarely got off the back foot as Kawana romped home with nine unanswered tries.
“It’s a bit disappointing for us because that’s our last regular game for the season… at half time we sort of talked about being a bit stronger in defence,” he said.
“We did that for the first 15 minutes and then it fell away, but Kawana is a good side and they know their footy.”
The Dolphins scored nine tries including eight successful conversions. It was the third loss to Kawana this season.
The Beerwah Division 1 Men’s also suffered a loss to the Dolphins, going down 14-12 with a penalty goal proving the difference.
The earlier round 16 matches against the Nambour Crushers saw the women’s side go down 36-24 in Nambour’s first win for the season.
Rod said the team fought back in the second half after trailing 24-4 in the first half.
The Crushers started strongly with three tries within the first 20 minutes before Beerwah got out of the blocks with a try of their own.
The second half started with two tries to the Crushers before the Bulldogs came back with four tries including a brace from Shanae Gray.
The Beerwah Bulldogs A Grade men’s side crushed the Crushers 40-10, with Mitchell Jennings scoring back to back tries in the second half.
