Business game on

SMALL Business Month has kicked off on the Sunshine Coast with a strong show of engagement, as more than 500 business representatives gathered to explore opportunities linked to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Held at Venue 114 on Tuesday, April 28, the supplier briefing connected local operators with key organisations delivering the Games and major infrastructure projects.

Representatives from the organising committee, Queensland Government, Sunshine Coast Council and the Department of Transport and Main Roads outlined how businesses can enter the procurement and supply chain.

Attendees gained insight into when opportunities will be released and what is required to become a registered supplier, with contracts expected across construction, transport, events, hospitality, technology and other service sectors.

Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli said the event was a critical step in ensuring local businesses share in the benefits of the region’s role as a co-host city.

“For our region, this is about turning a global event into real local opportunities jobs, contracts and long-term tourism growth,” Mayor Natoli said. “Our local businesses are the backbone of the Sunshine Coast economy, and connecting them early to these opportunities is a key priority.”

Major projects highlighted included upgrades to Sunshine Coast Stadium, a new mountain bike centre, a proposed arena and athlete village, and The Wave rail project all expected to drive demand for local suppliers.

Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie said the infrastructure pipeline would support jobs and industry across the region.

“We want Queensland small and medium businesses ready to bid, win and deliver,” he said.

Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander said the event would leave a lasting legacy, while Small Business Minister Steve Minnikin urged businesses to prepare early.

The Games are expected to deliver $8.1 billion in economic benefits statewide, with local suppliers set to play a vital role in delivering a lasting regional legacy.
