Business profile – Lala and Nestor Sanchez GYG Glass House Mountains

Q. Why did you choose Glass House Mountains?
We loved the tranquillity, the mountains and the lifestyle. It gave us the space we wanted for our family while still being close to the beach, Maleny and everything the kids need.

Q. Why open Guzman y Gomez here?
We had been involved with GYG for years and always hoped to become franchisees. When the Glass House Mountains opportunity came up, it felt right because we already loved the area and could see ourselves building a business here.

Q. Did the area’s growth influence you?
Definitely. We could see more families moving here and that gave us confidence in the future. But it was also important to invest somewhere we genuinely felt connected to.

Q. How many people do you employ?
Around 70, including many young locals. For some it is their first job, so it’s rewarding to see them build confidence.

Q. What has the community response been like?

It has been incredibly welcoming. We’ve built strong relationships through sponsorships with Tibro’s Netball Club and Glasshouse Cricket Club, and we’re continuing to connect with other local groups.

Q. What do you see for the area over the next decade?

I think Glass House Mountains and Beerwah will continue to grow. The challenge will be keeping the natural beauty and community feel that make the area special.

Q. And for your family and business?
We’d love to stay here long-term, raise our children in the area and keep growing with the community. For the business, that means providing local jobs and continuing to support local clubs and organisations.
