PROFESSOR Steve Turton, Adjunct Professor of Environmental Geography at CQ University, will take to the stage at the Maleny Community Centre on Thursday June 4 to lead a discussion into the projected effects of global warming on the Sunshine Coast region.
“Queensland is Australia’s most climate-exposed state with a large, decentralised population and already hot climates placing it on the global warming frontline,” said Professor Turton.
Prof Turton grew up in South Africa and New Zealand and has lived in Australia for the past 40 years. He holds a PhD in geography and environmental science from James Cook University.
He has published more than 130 scientific reports, book chapters and journal articles in rainforest ecology, environmental geography and climate change adaptation in natural resource management.
Held on the eve of World Environment Day, this evening of thought-provoking discussion has been put together by the Fisher Federal Organising Council of the Australian Labor Party and is open to all members of the public.
There is a small booking fee for the evening, and the Maleny Community Centre will run a cash bar.
