Queensland communities are gearing up to celebrate Australia Day, with a diverse array of events spanning the state from the coast to the outback. The official program will kick off with the Flag Raising Ceremony at Townsville’s Jezzine Barracks, featuring the Australian Defence Force Royal Guard of Honour and a 21-gun salute.
Across Queensland, 38 events will highlight local produce, live entertainment, and the stories of remarkable Queenslanders. The Crisafulli Government’s Australia Day program includes Great Australian Bites events in several locations, including Aurukun, Bargara, Brisbane, Cloncurry, Rockhampton, and Winton. These events will showcase Queensland’s finest produce, with family-friendly activities and live entertainment.
In Brisbane, former Olympian Brooke Hanson OLY OAM will join celebrity chefs Miguel Maestre and Peter Kuruvita for a special food and culture event at South Bank’s Great Australian Bites.
This year, 39 inspiring Queenslanders will participate in 38 local council events as part of the Australia Day Ambassador Program. Premier David Crisafulli highlighted the significance of the day, emphasising the opportunity for all Queenslanders to come together, reflect on Australia’s history, and celebrate the nation’s contributions.
Celebrity chef Miguel Maestre expressed excitement about celebrating Australia Day and showcasing Queensland’s produce in an interactive cooking demonstration, while Australia Day Ambassador Justine Christerson shared her enthusiasm for celebrating the everyday Australians making extraordinary contributions in their communities.
