SUNSHINE Coast Council will inspect properties housing 137 dangerous and menacing dogs over the next year after councillors endorsed its latest regulated dog compliance program.
The inspections will run from November 14, 2026 to November 13, 2027 and allow authorised officers to enter properties to check owners are meeting mandatory conditions.
Council figures show 137 regulated dogs were on its register as of August 19, including 111 dangerous dogs and 26 menacing dogs.
Under the current program, 87 audits had been completed, with 14 owners, or 16 per cent, issued compliance notices for failing to meet conditions. Five required a further inspection.
Council also recorded 27 newly declared regulated dogs during 2025-26, which will receive their first annual inspection under the new program.
Of the current regulated dogs, 96 were declared following attacks on animals and 41 following attacks on people.
The inspection program is expected to cost $67,815 and will be funded through regulated dog registration fees collected from owners across the Sunshine Coast.
