GLASSHOUSE Cricket Club bowler Joel Owen has been picked in his first representative team for the Coastal Marlins, which play in the Brisbane T20 league.
When the left arm spin bowler found out he had been picked in the Marlins, he was very happy to be considered.
“I was keen when I found out, it’s going to be a new challenge and a next step up from cricket on the coast, and I’m keen to give it a crack,” he said.
The first event he competed in for the team was the BPL century tournament at Kedron Sports Field during the first weekend in August.
The 22-year-old has been playing cricket since he first went along to a cricket training session with his brother when he was around 14, and he’s stuck to it for eight years.
But Joel is not looking for fame in the sport, and just enjoys the game and the social aspect which it brings him.
“I don’t really look at it for a career, its more for a bit of fun and make some mates and new friendships,” he said.
The results for the Century tournament were mixed for the Coastal Marlins, losing their first two matches by 4 wickets and 7 wickets respectively.
They started to find their feet against Moreton Magic, winning by 33 runs, and then won by 8 wickets against the Southern Rockets in the semi-final.
However, they lost by just 19 runs against the Gold Coast Waveriders in the grand final who previously went down to the team in their second match of the tournament by 7 wickets.
