The Crisafulli Government has unveiled a 25-year plan to future-proof Queensland’s primary industries and boost the state’s agricultural output to $30 billion by 2030.
The strategy will be developed in partnership with farmers, industry leaders and regional communities, with five-year operational plans designed to meet the specific needs of each region and sector.
Minister for Primary Industries, Mr Tony Perrett, said the plan marks a fresh start for the sector after what he called a decade of Labor neglect.
“The landscape of Queensland’s primary industries is changing rapidly, and we must act to ensure our industries and communities remain competitive, productive and resilient into the future,” Mr Perrett said.
The blueprint will consider global megatrends, advances in agtech, diversification, value-added manufacturing, international trade opportunities, and environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors.
Mr Perrett said the government was committed to rebuilding a collaborative culture between the department and the agriculture sector.
“This is a 25-year blueprint for a stronger future, and it’s all about unleashing new and exciting opportunities for Queensland producers,” he said.
A four-month consultation process will begin with a forum in Brisbane on 26 February, with the final blueprint to be released in the next financial year.
