Crunching the numbers, keeping it real

IN an industry often seen as dry, reactive, and transactional, Boss Advisory is rewriting the script.

Under the leadership of Managing Director, Clayton McCaffery, the boutique firm is positioning itself as a long-term financial partner for everyday people – combining professional expertise with a refreshingly approachable style.

Mr McCaffery, a qualified accountant and tax agent with two decades in the profession, took over Boss Advisory in 2024 and has since been steadily expanding both its services and its vision.

Backed by a tight-knit team including senior tax advisor John, accountant Eirin, and specialist support staff, the firm brings around 50 years of collective financial experience to the table.

At its core, Boss Advisory offers all the “nuts and bolts” of accounting including tax compliance and business accounting, however Mr McCaffery is the first to admit that simply looking backwards at numbers can only take clients so far.

“Every accounting firm has to do tax,” he explains.

“But with past numbers, we can only help the client so far. The real value comes from the relationship we build; talking more often, understanding their goals, and helping them plan ahead.”

That relationship-first approach underpins the business. Mr McCaffery sees trust and loyalty as the twin pillars of Boss Advisory’s work with clients, whether they are individuals seeking a solid tax return or growing businesses planning for the future.

“If we have those two things, it’s a good foundation to then build an adventure together and build wealth creation over time,” he says.

Rather than chasing a narrow niche, Boss Advisory deliberately keeps the door open for everyone.

A walk-in client wanting a simple individual tax return is welcomed and also appreciated as an ongoing opportunity – not just for that year’s work, but for what might follow: business ventures, property investment, referrals, and the chance to guide someone’s financial journey over decades.

That long-term vision has already led to the creation of Boss Finance, an arm of the business dedicated to finance lending services.

While a future move into a dedicated wealth creation/financial planning division is on the horizon, Boss Finance is already operating, allowing clients to access more of what they need under a single brand.

The idea is simple: if clients already trust Boss Advisory with their accounting and tax, extending that trust to finance lending is a natural progression.

Despite the depth of experience in the team, Mr McCaffery is determined to keep things clear and accessible.

“We take complex taxation matters and relate them back in a way that’s accessible and understandable,” he explained.

That accessibility flows through to the atmosphere in the office.

Forget stiff suits and boardroom formality; Boss Advisory leans into a casual, friendly style designed to make both staff and clients feel comfortable and at ease.

The firm’s tagline, “Boss your finances, boss your life,”captures that philosophy. Mr McCaffery is quick to clarify it’s not about the firm being in charge – it’s about empowering clients.

“It’s the clients who are the boss,” he says. “They’re the ones doing the hard work, making the money. We’re just in the passenger seat, navigating them towards success.”

With a blend of professional rigour, genuine relationships and a fresh, human approach, Boss Advisory is emerging as a trusted adviser for clients who want more than just numbers on a page – they want a financial partner for the journey.
