Cybermerc Sets Up First Office Outside Canberra on the Sunshine Coast

The Sunshine Coast has strengthened its position as a hub for innovation with the arrival of cyber-security leader, Cybermerc, which has chosen the region for its first base outside Canberra. Specialising in cyber threat detection and prevention, Cybermerc’s move highlights the region’s growing reputation in tackling cybercrime—one of Australia’s fastest-growing threats.

Backed by the Sunshine Coast Council, local businesses are leveraging the region’s world-class digital infrastructure to fight cyber threats. Mayor Rosanna Natoli welcomed Cybermerc, citing the company’s role in boosting innovation and creating career opportunities for local youth. “As someone who has been a victim of cybercrime, I am proud of our region’s proactive efforts,” she said.

Cybermerc CEO Matthew Nevin praised the Sunshine Coast’s connectivity and expertise, stating, “We absolutely had to be part of the excitement here.”

Cybermerc’s new home at UniSC’s Innovation Centre begins with five employees, with plans to create 10 new jobs. Additionally, the company leads Project DFNDR, a government-funded initiative enhancing cyber protection for defence and critical infrastructure businesses. Partnering with the Manufacturing Excellence Forum and University of Canberra, the project aims to bolster Australia’s cyber resilience.
