CONSTRUCTION activity on Maleny’s Maple Street Streetscape Upgrade will ramp up over coming weeks, with motorists facing a four-week detour as work begins on a new pedestrian crossing near the chemist.
From Monday, August 31, the west-bound lane of Maple Street between the Coral Street roundabout and Fig Street will close, with traffic diverted via Coral Street. The temporary arrangement is expected to remain in place for about four weeks while preparatory works and construction of the new raised pedestrian crossing are undertaken.
East-bound access will remain open, including access to parking, while vehicles accessing Teak Street, the IGA car park and Mitre 10 will need to approach from the east-bound lane. Temporary parking changes will also apply along the southern side of Maple Street.
Crews are also progressing construction of the Myrtle Street pedestrian crossing and rebuilding sections of footpath between 40 and 44 Maple Street. Council said activity would increase as crews work simultaneously across two construction zones, with increased noise, vibration and dust possible.
