Top players recognised by SCGRL

BEERWAH Bulldogs Reserve Grade captain, Tony Ainsworth, was recognised for an outstanding season at the recent Sunshine Coast Rugby League awards last month.
The Bulldogs received awards across a range of different grades including Ainsworth, who was the highest point-scorer across the reserve grade competition with 163, which was 70 more than the next player. The five-eighth also shared the award for most tries in reserve grade with Beerwah teammate Tyler Turvey. C-grader Lawrence Muckan was rewarded for an impressive season by receiving the SCGRL Most Tries Overall with 18 tries for the season.
A memorable moment for the club came when Kayla Walker was acknowledged for her amazing work by winning the SCJRL Club Volunteer of the Year award. Walker, who is the junior registrar, was recognised for her tireless involvement in supporting the club from running the canteen to countless other roles.
The night was also a chance to celebrate club success, including the Beerwah under 19’s who capped a tremendous season with victory in the grand final. The Bulldogs overcame an early 10 point deficit to score a 26-22 victory over minor premiers, Caloundra Sharks, with halfback Ellyjah Birve scoring a try and kicking three conversions in a player of the match performance.
The Bulldogs Reserve Grade side finished second in the regular season competition, before bowing out in the preliminary final with an eight point loss to eventual champions, Stanley River Wolves.
