Driving towards zero-emission heavy vehicle network

The Miles Government is advancing sustainable transport by supporting the adoption of zero-emission heavy vehicles (ZEHVs) and mapping key state-controlled roads to accommodate them.

A new Zero Emission Heavy Vehicle Network Map will focus on selected roads in South-East Queensland, extending from the New South Wales border to Bundaberg and as far west as Toowoomba and Warwick. The government is also researching the impact of heavier ZEHVs on road infrastructure to ensure a smooth transition.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Bart Mellish said ZEHVs would help meet Queensland’s emissions reduction targets of 30 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030 and net zero by 2050.

Energy Minister Mick de Brenni said decarbonising heavy transport would support emissions reductions across industries and create local manufacturing opportunities.

Volvo Group Australia President Martin Merrick confirmed the announcement would enable Volvo’s full range of electric heavy vehicles to operate in Queensland and allow further investment in local truck manufacturing at Wacol.
