Early detection better

ROTARY Maleny is once again getting behind the vital “Early Detection is Your Best Prevention” initiative, with the 2026 Rotary Bowel Cancer Awareness, Detection and Prevention Program now underway.

Chris Porchun, Pharmacy Manager at Maleny Star Discount Pharmacy, said the campaign aimed to save lives through early detection.

“Bowel cancer is the number two cancer killer in Australia and is now the number one cancer being detected in young Australians aged between 18 and 45,” he said.

“Symptoms can be difficult to identify, but it is a cancer that can be detected early, starting with a simple test.”

Mr Porchun said risk factors included family history, as well as exposure to chemicals in occupations such as Defence, emergency services and certain industries.

Rotary Bowelscan iFOBT kits are now available in-store, with Business Manager Bek Tyquin highlighting the strong local partnership.

“It’s a pleasure working with Rotary on this important community health program,” she said.
