Welcome to the Glasshouse Country & Maleny News website – the newspaper was established back in May 1986 and over the following 34 years, our community has grown and technology changed.
The paper has seen many changes over that time and has become the go-to source for locals for their weekly local news and update on community events and activities.
Throughout this time, the newspaper was printed and diligently delivered in letterboxes throughout the major townships of Glasshouse Country and Maleny.
However, in April 2020 with the local business communities feeling the dramatic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, Glasshouse Country & Maleny News decided to temporarily transition to being an on-line only publication.
We had already been producing an on-line edition of the newspaper each week on our website since 2010 … you can go back and look up old editions of the paper under the Read / News Achieve tab.
We understand that reading the newspaper on-line is not as appealing, for many of our regulars, as sitting down with a cuppa and a hard-copy of the newspaper.
However, we felt that this was the only way we could continue delivering a weekly newspaper, while not putting additional pressure on local businesses to purchase advertising in a time when they were already struggling to cope with all of the changes around them.
In response to overwhelming demand (and supported by government assistance programs), in July we were able to return to print on a fortnightly basis, to the considerable relief of local businesses, readers and community organisations.
Through these difficult times, local newspapers can be a reassuring influence on local communities … bring them together, allowing them to share their experiences, keeping them in contact with each other.
During recent times, the newspaper industry as a whole has taken a battering. We are proud to remain the longest serving local community newspaper for this region … and long may we continue to be so.
