A man in his 50s has been safely rescued after becoming stranded on Mt Beerwah in the Glass House Mountains on Thursday afternoon.

Queensland Fire Department received a call for help about 12.21pm on June 6, with reports the man was stuck on the mountain’s popular but challenging trail. Six crews were dispatched, with the first arriving on scene at 1.19pm.

A specialist vertical rescue team was deployed, with rescuers abseiling to reach the man and begin the assisted descent.

“The team abseiled up the mountain and secured the climber. The team commenced their descent with the man requiring rescue at approximately 1.52pm,” a QFD spokeswoman said. “At 2.14pm the person was safely returned to the ground.”

Paramedics from Queensland Ambulance Service were on site from 12.24pm to assist. A QAS spokeswoman said the man did not sustain any injuries but remained under observation.

Emergency services remained on scene as of mid-afternoon to conclude operations.
