Family fun bridges generations in Moreton Bay

PONY rides, magic, egg-and-spoon races and plenty of family fun brought generations together in Moreton Bay on September 24 for the GemLife LifeChanger Spring Carnival.

Some 200 grandparents and 120 children joined the free event at GemLife Moreton Bay in Burpengary East for a day that celebrated the special connection between generations.

Mild conditions provided comfortable carnival conditions as families tackled a treasure hunt, old-fashioned games and children’s team-building activities, while pony rides, an animal farm, face painting, arts and crafts and a magic show kept younger guests entertained.

Grandparents also got in on the action, with the egg-and-spoon races putting a few reputations – and bragging rights – on the line.
Former ironwoman Karla Gilbert OAM shared some food for thought with a nutrition talk and cooking session, while GemLife Chef Matt Conquest served up a grazing table lunch.

The carnival was part of GemLife’s ongoing partnership with LifeChanger Foundation, a preventative youth mental health charity that helps young people build resilience, confidence, connection and practical life skills.

GemLife Founder, Managing Director and Group CEO Adrian Puljich said the day was about having fun while celebrating the important role older generations can play in young people’s lives.

“GemLife homeowners have a wealth of life experience to share, and our partnership with LifeChanger has created some fantastic opportunities for them to connect with and support younger generations,” Mr Puljich said.

“The carnival was a chance to simply spend time together – to talk, laugh, have fun and create some great memories along the way.”

LifeChanger Community Engagement Manager Samantha Corfield said those everyday connections could have a lasting impact on young people.

“Intergenerational connection is incredibly valuable because young people benefit from having positive role models and people in their lives who listen, share their experiences and make them feel valued,” Ms Corfield said.
