The Bruce Highway is set to receive a significant funding boost, with the Federal Government confirming the return of 80 per cent federal funding for future upgrades—an important step toward improving road safety and supporting regional growth across Queensland.
The highway, which stretches over 1,600 kilometres from Brisbane to Cairns, is a critical transport route for Queenslanders and freight operators alike. The renewed commitment is expected to help fast-track major works, including bypasses, overtaking lanes, and safety upgrades along the route.
Federal Member for Fisher, Andrew Wallace, welcomed the announcement, highlighting the importance of continued investment in regional infrastructure. Since 2016, Wallace has played a leading role in securing over $900 million for Bruce Highway upgrades between the Caloundra Road and Sunshine Motorway interchanges. This project has significantly enhanced safety and efficiency by widening the highway to six lanes and improving key interchanges—benefiting both residents and local businesses.
Wallace also reiterated his commitment to advocating for projects such as the Mooloolah River Interchange, which remains a key priority for the Sunshine Coast region.
With road safety and regional connectivity at the forefront, the renewed federal funding is expected to deliver long-term benefits for Queensland communities and help reduce serious crashes on one of the state’s busiest corridors.
