SUNSHINE Coast roaming cats are responsible for an average of 186 animal deaths per annum, 100 of which are native.
When cats are not securely contained in their home, pets will roam and partake in hunt killing which is destructive to the local wildlife.
The Sunshine Coast region has more than 11,000 cats registered, which can result in a large damaging toll on the area’s native fauna.
Invasive Species Council Australia, revealed that feral and roaming pet cats kill a combined 2 billion animals every year.
“That’s over 4 million animals killed by feral cats and about 1.5 million animals killed by roaming pet cats per day,” they said on their website.
