Film and screen events win funding

A vibrant suite of film and screen events will reach more than 45,000 Queenslanders in 2025.

A total of $124,000 will be shared among 12 successful recipients, supporting a diverse range of global films, local screen stories, industry conferences, film festivals, and skills development workshops across the state.

From the Gold Coast to Yeppoon, Winton to Cairns, these events will showcase cutting-edge digital media and promote inclusive programming. Notable events receiving funding include the Very Short Film Festival, which celebrates Australian stories and contemporary culture, and the Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival, a well-established favourite in the state. Additionally, the Queensland Games Festival has been funded to highlight the local games development sector.

Minister for the Arts John-Paul Langbroek expressed that the funding would create job opportunities and drive economic growth, particularly in regional areas, while enhancing engagement with the film industry.

Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney added that the funding supports events and festivals that help foster local talent and ensure communities statewide can access diverse storytelling experiences.

Applications for the next round of funding for events occurring from 1 July to 31 December 2025 are now open, with the deadline set for Friday 28 February 2025 at 9am AEST.
