Fisher MP signs defaced with Nazi graffiti

A Sunshine Coast MP has condemned the appearance of Nazi graffiti on his political signs, describing it as part of a growing wave of antisemitism across Australia.

Fisher MP Andrew Wallace, who has been a vocal advocate for stronger laws against hate symbols, said several of his campaign signs were defaced over the weekend with Nazi insignia, prompting public concern.

Mr Wallace, who serves as deputy chair of Parliament’s intelligence and security committee and chairs the Australia-Israel Allies Caucus, was a key figure in the push to criminalise the Nazi salute and other hate symbols.

He said the graffiti was further evidence of an escalating problem.

“I have never seen antisemitism as widespread and prevalent on the Sunshine Coast as we are experiencing today,” he said.

“Online and on our streets, we are confronting an antisemitism crisis – and it’s only getting worse.”

Wallace called on the community to take a stand against antisemitism, urging residents to report hate speech and vandalism to authorities.

“This virulent antisemitism threatens the safety and character of our community, and it demands strong leadership,” he said.

Recent incidents in Australia, including the firebombing of a Melbourne synagogue earlier this year, have heightened concerns about antisemitism. The rise in incidents has sparked debate over the response from political leaders and law enforcement.

Mr Wallace urged people to be proactive in addressing the issue, saying action was needed to prevent further escalation.

Authorities are investigating the graffiti and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
