Do you want to know what the future holds for building heights, rural zoning, industrial areas or housing density in your neighbourhood?
Sunshine Coast Council is inviting residents to attend a series of open community forums to ask questions and gain a better understanding of the proposed new Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme.
The new planning scheme will shape how the region grows and changes over the coming decades — influencing where homes, parks, businesses and infrastructure are placed, and how the environment and lifestyle of the Coast are protected.
Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli said the forums would offer an open and welcoming opportunity for residents to engage directly with Council experts.
“We encourage our community to take an active interest in the future planning of our home – and we want to make that as easy as possible,” Mayor Natoli said.
“These forums are about giving everyone in our community the opportunity to ask questions and seek the information they need to provide informed feedback.
Whether you’re curious, supportive or have concerns – we’re here to listen.”
No presentations, just conversations
Rather than formal presentations, each forum will be structured as an open forum, led by an independent facilitator to support honest, two-way dialogue. Residents will be able to ask questions, raise concerns, and hear directly from Council’s planning team.
Any questions that cannot be answered on the night will be taken on notice, with follow-up responses provided after the event. Council says this approach ensures all attendees walk away with the knowledge they need to make a formal submission.
“This is about shaping a Sunshine Coast we all want – now and into the future,” Mayor Natoli said.
“Wherever you live on the Sunshine Coast, you are welcome at any of these sessions.”
When and where
Three forums are scheduled across the region in August:
- Nambour: Wednesday, August 13 – Nambour State College, Hungerford Hall. Doors open 5.30pm for a 6.00pm start.
- Kawana: Saturday, August 16 – Kawana Community Hall. Doors open 2.00pm for a 2.30pm start.
- Caloundra: Wednesday, August 20 – The Events Centre. Doors open 5.00pm for a 5.30pm start.
All sessions will run for approximately two hours. Light refreshments will be available.
