FROM our very first edition, this newspaper has had a front-row seat to the education of generations of hinterland children.
We’ve been there for first days, graduations, formals, clap-outs and just about every milestone in between.
Through thousands of photographs and countless stories, we’ve documented the lives of students across our region.
From the historic classrooms of Beerwah State School, the district’s oldest school, to the opening of Beerwah State High School with its first 100 students in 1992, and Glasshouse Christian College in 2000, we’ve watched our local schools grow alongside the community. That very first edition now reads like a time capsule.
Among its pages are letters from four Year 7 students at Beerwah State School (above right), sharing their biggest concerns about the world: the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, terrorism, violence on television and the lack of bike paths. Brilliant.
Their worries reflected the issues of the day, just as today’s students face a different set of challenges.
One thing hasn’t changed. Every generation of hinterland students has arrived full of optimism, curiosity and possibility. Here’s to many more first days, last days and everything in between.
