THE Rotary Club of Glasshouse Country has welcomed a new president while reaffirming its commitment to serving the local community.
At the club’s annual changeover dinner at the Beerwah Hotel on June 29, outgoing president Rex Shelton formally handed the chain of office to incoming president Jack Julius.
In his final report, Mr Shelton reflected on a year of meaningful community service, despite the club operating with a small core of active members following retirements and health-related departures.
Over the past 12 months, the club has contributed more than $5,000 to community initiatives, including shelter bags for people experiencing homelessness, support for local neighbourhood centres, youth science programs, school awards, chaplaincy services and university bursaries.
The club also reaffirmed its commitment to donate $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation.
Long-serving member Tony Long was recognised for his outstanding contribution to Rotary through his leadership roles.
As he begins his term, Mr Julius said rebuilding membership and increasing Rotary’s profile in the community would be key priorities, while continuing the club’s proud tradition of service to the Glasshouse Country community.
