GHM tourist park set to be decided

A CONTROVERSIAL tourist park proposal at Glass House Mountains will go before the Sunshine Coast Council later this week, with council officers recommending approval despite strong community opposition.

The application for a tourist park at 29 Roberts Street attracted significant public interest.

Plans for the development include eight accommodation cabins, 12 caravan and camping sites, amenities and rural farm-style experiences for guests.

Council received 115 properly made public submissions during consultation, with all but one objecting to the proposal, raising concerns about the scale and impact of the development.

In response, the applicant substantially reduced the proposal, removing a planned function facility, food and drink outlet and ancillary timber mill activities.

Council officers concluded the revised development was consistent with the Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme 2014, finding the reduced-scale tourist park was an appropriate use for the rural site and surrounding area.

The application has been recommended for approval, subject to conditions.
