Girl Guides hut to be repurposed

EARLIER this year members of the Maleny District Sport and Recreation Club (MDSRC) were advised that the Maleny Girl Guides association, which started in 1962, was to be wrapped up, and lease on the Cedar Street premises dissolved.
Realising the capacity of the building to continue to contribute a viable community space, MDSRC stepped up to manage the building. President Greg Williams said he was pleased to advise the building lease had now been transferred to MDSRC.
“MDSRC has set about ensuring that this valuable asset continues to be used by our community, for a variety of community uses,” he wrote in the MDSRC May 7 newsletter.
“The goal is to create a centre for the broad use and benefit of a multitude of prospective user groups in Maleny,” he added.
The space has now been rebadged the Cedar Street Community Centre. Local groups and organisations are invited to reach out to MDSRC with any hall hire
enquiries. Please contact Kathy Howard or Theresa Craig 0419 029 385 or email for further details.
