Glenview State School makes some noise

Contributed by Chelsea Harry

Term three in the school calendar marks an important season for music teachers locally, as they prepare many instrumental and vocal students to participate in the Sunshine Coast Eisteddfod.

One school making some noise in the choral competition is Glenview State School. They entered two school choirs: Junior (Grades 1 to 3) and Senior (Grades 4 to 6). To their surprise they both earnt themselves a highly commended (or in layman’s terms, fourth place). Conducted by Mrs Chelsea Harry, these two amazing groups held their own against the likes of highly decorated private schools.

They beat many other schools in their category and can hold their heads very high for their outstanding singing. With little over 300 students, Glenview has much to sing about!

Over a quarter of their student population sings in these choirs. Add to this statistic that a third of all students are learning an instrument (from strings and brass, through to piano and guitar), and you have a hugely vibrant music program that exceeds all state averages.

Well done to the music teaching team and congratulations to the fabulous young people.
