SUNSHINE Coast Goanna’s club president Wayne Alberts has been officially picked to be part of the sports and recreation team for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.

Wayne told GC&M News when he received a letter from local member Ted O’Brien asking if he wanted to be apart of the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, he was honoured.

“It was a humbling thing you know, it’s fantastic to be a part of one of the biggest events in Australia and in the world,” he said.

“I don’t do what I do to be looked at or anything like that, I do it for the love of it and for the kids, but to be noticed, it’s a good feeling.”

Within his role, he hopes to help bring more sporting exposure to the Sunshine Coast through expanding and improving several local sporting fields and complexes.

His top priority is to have an Olympic standard soccer complex built in Buderim, but also make fields more accessible to the public, such as the Kawana Stadium.

“I’d like to push for a big complex for soccer, we have a big one in Caboolture but I want one on the coast,” he said.

“Why should we send people away from the Sunshine Coast when we could have the best teams here and boost our small businesses.”

Ex-Olympian Duncan Armstrong will be among those Wayne will be working alongside in the lead up to the 2032 Olympics.
