Good Samaritan’s car stolen after crash

WITNESSES say that a man who crashed his car on Steve Irwin Way at Landsborough this morning then stole another man’s vehicle who had stopped to help.

Bystanders say a single car drove off the road between Forestry Rd and the Big Kart Track at Landsborough and into a tree. Another man stopped to help but then had his own car stolen by the crash victim.

Terry-Anne Mondahl posted on Facebook that she stopped to help but could not stop the car thief.

“(The crash was) single vehicle and driver walked away and stole a man’s car who had stopped to lend assistance,” she wrote.

“Poor bloke had his wallet & house keys in his car, he was so upset.”

Beerwah police said they were continuing to investigate the incident saying initial investigations indicated a white Jaguar that reported stolen from Worongary lost control on Steve Irwin Way just after 9am, before colliding with a tree.

Several members of the public, including a man in his 60s, stopped to assist the male driver from the vehicle, police said.

The driver has then proceeded to get into the man’s maroon Mazda CX-5 and take off northbound on Steve Irwin Way.

The driver is described as male and aged between 18 and 30.

Police investigations into the incident remain ongoing.

Anyone with information, relevant CCTV or dashcam footage in the area at the time depicting the incident or a white Jaguar and maroon Mazda CX-5 is urged to contact police.
