Grants to tackle social isolation

The Miles Government is investing $200,000 to address social isolation and loneliness within Queensland’s culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Grants of up to $50,000 are available for community-led projects that focus on enhancing social connections, community cohesion, and job participation.

This initiative is part of the $4 million Communities Innovation Fund and recognises the unique challenges faced by migrant and refugee communities, people seeking asylum, and Australian South Sea Islander people, who are at increased risk of isolation.

Eligible organisations can apply for funding to support events, courses, and professional development programs aimed at reducing loneliness and improving job readiness. Applications for the second round of grants close on Monday 22 April 2024.

Minister for Communities Leeanne Enoch highlighted that social isolation affects not just individual health but the wellbeing of communities as a whole. She emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering an inclusive Queensland where everyone has equal opportunities for social and economic participation.
