History group ‘life before computers’

Contributed by Ron Gillinder

THE next local history meeting at the Glasshouse Neighbourhood Centre, convened by the Glasshouse History Group, will be on Tuesday July 21 commencing 1.30pm.

The theme for July will be ‘Life before Computers’. Think about how you dealt with tasks prior to the early 1980s when home computers started to invade our daily lives (The ‘Commodore 64’ was released in 1982 – software was loaded by inserting a 5¼ inch floppy disk each time you needed to use the computer.)

Prior to the 1980s paper transactions were routine and receipts were probably kept on a sharpened metal spike.

Attendees are encouraged to bring along their stories of maintaining paper trails or using special equipment to ease related workloads.

We appreciate community involvement and encourage your participation to share remembrances and enjoy afternoon tea.
