Inquiry into Blue Card failings

The Crisafulli Government has launched a major inquiry into the Blue Card Child Protection system.

The inquiry, to be conducted by the Queensland Family and Child Commission (QFCC) Child Death Review Board, will focus on the system’s responses to child sexual abuse, including failures to protect children from convicted paedophile Ashley Paul Griffith.

Under the leadership of Child Death Review Board Chairperson Luke Twyford, the inquiry will examine weaknesses in laws, policies, procedures, and practices across early childhood education and care, police, and the blue card systems.

Premier David Crisafulli stated that the inquiry would uncover system failings and provide recommendations to improve Queensland’s child protection framework.

“This inquiry is essential to bring child protection weaknesses to light and protect children from the dangers that exist in the system,” Premier Crisafulli said.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Deb Frecklington emphasised the government’s commitment to improving the system, ensuring perpetrators are identified, and at-risk children are protected.

Child Death Review Board Chairperson Luke Twyford welcomed the opportunity to lead the review and ensure the highest standards were met. Findings from the review will be made public, with progress reports released throughout the process.
