THE Beerwah Bulldogs have renamed their main field in honour of life member Dennis ‘Slim’ Moroney.
Announced at the Doggie’s season launch on Saturday March 4, a humbled Slim said he was overwhelmed by the gesture.
“Good on you ladies and gentlemen, thank you very much for this honour I just wish I was a bit stronger and I didn’t have tears in my eyes but what a turn out, thank you very much,” Slim said during the presentation.
The club said his unwavering commitment to the Bulldogs over decades including a much-needed $20,000 donation during a tough financial period, his support at games and behind the scenes work made it an easy decision.
“Slim actually built this club and supported this club from day one and since October it’s been in the committee’s mind to show appreciation to him, so we are renaming this ground after him,” club president Stephen Hammil said.
The official name for the field is the Dennis ‘Slim’ Moroney Field.
The launch day was a huge success for the club with juniors included for the first time as a way of bringing the Bulldogs together as one.
“It’s the first time for the juniors, the seniors have had a smaller launch in the past but this event is for the whole club, and let’s get in there and enjoy this ride for 2023,” he said.
Along with the renamed field, the launch also welcomed and acknowledged all the players, coaches and managers were announced and recognised ahead of the first round beginning in a few weeks’ time.
An official start date has yet to be announced.
Launch festivities included live music, fireworks, a mechanical bull ride, inflatable obstacle courses and a ‘dunk- the-coach’ station.
