AN Evening of Jazz under the stars is set to light up Beerwah State High School on Friday May 15 from 6pm, with a community fundraiser that promises great music, good food and a relaxed night out for all ages.
School chaplain Mike Turner said the idea is to recreate the kind of community nights Beerwah once knew and loved.
“We really want people to come and enjoy a really community-style event that also supports school chaplaincy at Beerwah,” Mr Turner said.
“People could bring their picnic blankets, chairs, find a nice spot in the quadrangle and enjoy the stars, enjoy the music.”
The event, ‘An Evening of Jazz’, will feature a 19-piece band led by well-known local music teacher Liz Drew, with guest vocals from teacher Rebecca Stevenson.
Mr Turner said the music will be upbeat, welcoming and accessible: “The music they’re going to play is the type people will love to dance to… you could probably call it mainstream jazz,” he said.
With best-dressed and best-dancer prizes, ‘jazz burgers,’ sweets, and beer, wine and other drinks on offer, Mr Turner hopes locals will invite friends and neighbours along for an eveing of community and connection.
All proceeds will support the school’s long-running chaplaincy program.
