THE grounds of the Landsborough Museum will come alive with music, movies and maroon pride next month as Sunshine Coast residents gather to celebrate Queensland Day under the stars.
The free QLD Day Party – Landsborough Edition will run from 3pm to 9pm on June 6, transforming the heritage-listed museum precinct into a family-friendly community festival featuring live entertainment, food trucks, children’s activities and outdoor big-screen screenings.
Funded through the Queensland Government’s QLD Day program, the event is expected to attract families from across the Sunshine Coast, with organisers encouraging locals to bring picnic rugs and settle in for a relaxed evening celebrating Queensland culture and community spirit.
Located at 4 Maleny Street and within walking distance of Landsborough train station, the event will also take advantage of Queensland’s 50-cent public transport fares, making it accessible for visitors travelling from across the region.
Entertainment will begin from 3pm with live music performances creating a festival atmosphere throughout the afternoon and evening.
Families will also have access to free activities including face painting and an inflatable obstacle course for children.
As the sun sets, the event’s Starry Nights outdoor cinema experience will begin from 5.30pm, headlined by a live screening of the NRL clash between the North Queensland Cowboys and the Redcliffe Dolphins followed by the Queensland Firebirds and the Sunshine Coast Lightning.
Visitors will also be able to explore a special exhibition highlighting the Sunshine Coast’s sporting history, with displays remaining open until late.
Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli said the event would provide an opportunity for residents from across the region to celebrate what makes Queensland unique.
Mayor Natoli said QLD Day commemorated Queensland’s separation from New South Wales in 1859 and celebrated the state’s independent spirit, lifestyle and strong community identity.
As part of the wider statewide celebrations, residents are also being encouraged to vote in Queensland’s “All the Best” campaign, recognising favourite local icons across 15 categories ranging from beaches to bakeries.
