Lisa Wilkinson to appear at Outspoken Maleny event at Community Centre

AUSTRALIAN media identity Lisa Wilkinson will appear in conversation at the Maleny Community Centre on Tuesday, May 12, as part of the Outspoken author series, presenting her latest book and reflecting on a career spanning journalism, magazines and television.

Wilkinson’s latest book, The Titanic Story of Evelyn, explores the life of Evelyn Marsden, the only Australian survivor of the sinking of the Titanic.

It follows Marsden’s journey as a young nurse who set out to see the world, fell in love, and was caught in one of history’s most infamous maritime disasters.

The book also highlights her courageous and largely overlooked role in the aftermath of the tragedy, bringing renewed attention to a story that has faded from public memory.

Wilkinson is one of Australia’s most recognisable media figures, rising rapidly through the ranks of magazine publishing.

She became the youngest-ever editor of Dolly, later held senior roles at Cleo, and went on to a high-profile television career co-hosting The Today Show before joining The Project on Network Ten.

She is currently focused on writing.

She will be joined on stage by introducing authors David Carlin and Peta Murray, who will discuss their collaborative work How to Dress for Old Age. The book is a reflective exploration of ageing, care, and family relationships, using dual perspectives to examine how people navigate later life and changing family roles.

Carlin is the author of Our Father Who Wasn’t There and The After-Normal, while Murray is known for plays including Wallflowering and Salt.

The Maleny event is expected to draw strong interest from local readers and the broader hinterland arts community

The event begins at 6pm for a 6.30pm start, with tickets priced at $30, or $20 for students, available via www outspoken maleny.com.
