Major Milestone Reached for Brisbane 2032 Athlete Village

Premier Steven Miles has announced a major milestone in Brisbane’s preparations for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, with an $87 million contract awarded to BMD for the first phase of early works on the Athlete Village.

The Northshore Brisbane Street Renewal Program, enabled by Economic Development Queensland, will lay the groundwork for the Brisbane Athlete Village, transforming the Northshore precinct with new and upgraded roads.

Premier Miles emphasized the long-term benefits of the project.

“These early works will transform Northshore Brisbane now, well ahead of 2032, and deliver a better, more connected Brisbane,” he said.

“Northshore will become home to Team Australia, and incredible athletes and para-athletes from right around the world, when Brisbane hosts the Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

The project includes a sub-tropical boulevard along Macarthur Avenue with tree-lined footpaths, cycleways, and smart light poles. Once fully matured, trees will provide 75-80% shade coverage, ensuring a cooler environment for visitors and athletes.

Following the Games, the Athlete Village will be repurposed into a mix of social, affordable, and market housing, as well as hotels, retirement living, and community facilities.

Construction will begin this month, marking a key step toward a lasting urban legacy for Brisbane.
