RAINFOREST walks that take in unimpeded views of the Glasshouse Mountains are part of a new vision to expand the current Maleny Botanical Gardens and Bird World site.
The Bird World site is currently sitting on about 49 hectares but only uses a fraction of the site for its gardens and bird sanctuary.
Now it is asking the Sunshine Coast Council to allow it to use the remaining area of the site, below the escarpment, for public use.
The southern area of the site includes interesting and unusual rock formations to the Sunshine Coast region, pristine rainforest areas with significant trees and uninterrupted view lines to the Glasshouse Mountains, the development application stated.
“There is an area of botanical garden lawn area below the escarpment with access leading to a natural waterfall,” planner Covey Associates wrote.
“The waterfall is located within some geological aspects that are not visible in other areas of the Sunshine Coast.”
The Bird World proposes to use interpretation signs to educate walkers on the natural features and formations of the site.
They also argue that the new tracks will pass through similar rainforest to Mary Cairncross and “likely assist” alleviating the visitor pressure on that attraction.
According to documents seen by GC&M News there are no stability issues for the tracks which will vary in steepness.
The tracks will be sign posted and areas not to be accessed by the public clearly signed and access prohibited.
